La 66a cerimonia di consegna dei Primetime Emmy Awards, gli ambiti premi dedicati alle migliori produzioni televisive, si è svolta lunedì 25 Agosto al Nokia Theatre di Los Angeles: ad ottenere il premio più ambito tra le serie TV di genere commedia è ancora Modern Family, anche se a dominare la seriata è senza dubbio Breaking Bad, che alla sua stagione conclusiva fa incentta di premi nelle categorie dedicate alle migliori serie drammatiche. Tra i vincitori di questa edizione, anche la serie antologica American Horros Story, la miniserie Fargo e il film TV diretto da Ryan Murphy The Normal Heart, oltre al prodotto BBC Sherlock che, oltre ai riconoscimenti tecnici già ricevuti (assegnati un paio di settimane fa, fuori dalla cerimonia di premiazione), ottiene altri tre Emmy nelle categorie principali, vincendo così in numeri con un totale di ben 7 premi.
Tra pronostici in gran parte rispettati e qualche sorpresa, a trionfare è quindi la serie TV di grande successo targata AMC Breaking Bad, che si aggiudica il premio come miglior serie drammatica (vinto anche lo scorso anno), oltre ad altri quattro importanti riconoscimenti, ovvero miglior attore protagonista (al grande Bryan Cranston), miglior attore non protagonista (Aaron Paul), miglior attrice non protagonista (Anna Gunn) e migliore sceneggiatura. Arrivata alla quinta ed ultima stagione, la serie prevale su un altro prodotto di eccellente qualità come True Detective, che alla sua prima stagione aveva catturato il pubblico e raccolto gli elogi della critica: la serie antologica prodotta da HBO, meravigliosamente scritta da Nick Pizzolatto e interpretata da Matthew McConaughey e Woody Harrelson (entrambi candidati), deve infatti “accontentarsi” del premio per la migliore regia a Cary Joji Fukunaga. Nessun riconoscimento di rilievo per le altre serie in nomination, ovvero Il Trono di Spade, Mad Men, Downton Abbey e l’ottimo House of Cards con Kevin Spacey e Robin Wright (che forse meriterebbe più attenzione), mentre, sempre nelle categorie dedicate alle serie drammatiche, Julianna Margulies ottiene nuovamente l’Emmy come migliore attrice protagonista per il suo ruolo in The Good Wife.
Nelle categorie dedicate alla commedia vince ancora Modern Family, che batte il quotatissimo prodotto Netflix Orange is the New Black e si aggiudica così il riconoscimento più alto (per il quinto anno consecutivo), oltre ai premi per la migliore regia e per il miglior attore non protagonista a Ty Burrell (al secondo Emmy per il suo ruolo nella serie); ad ottenere i premi come miglior attore e attrice protagonisti sono invece Jim Parsons per The Big Bang Theory (alla sua quarta vittoria) e Julia Louis-Dreyfuss per Veep (al secondo Emmy dopo la vittoria del 2012), mentre Allison Janney, premiata anche come “attrice ospite” per Masters of Sex, vince un secondo premio come migliore attrice non protagonista per il suo ruolo ruolo nella sitcom Mom. Il premio alla migliore sceneggiatura di una serie commedia è andato invece a Louis C.K., autore della serie Louie (di cui è anche protagonista), mentre gli altri “attori ospiti” premiati in questa edizione sono Joe Morton (per il suo ruolo in Scandal), Uzo Aduba (molto apprezzata in Orange is the New Black) e Jimmy Fallon (per la sua partecipazione al Saturday Night Live).
Miglior miniserie è invece Fargo (ispirata al celebre film dei fratelli Coen), vincitore anche del premio per la migliore regia di miniserie o film TV, mentre il miglior film per la televisione, come da pronostici, è The Normal Heart di Ryan Murphy, basato sull’omonima pièce teatrale di Larry Kramer ed interpretato, tra gli altri, da Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts e Matt Bomer; nonostante l’apprezzato cast di livello, il film prodotto da HBO non ottiene però nessun riconoscimento nelle categorie dedicate recitazione, dove invece sorprende la doppia vittoria di Sherlock, che oltre all’Emmy per la migliore sceneggiatura ottiene infatti altri due premi per gli interpreti principali, ovvero Benedict Cumberbatch (premiato come miglior attore) e Martin Freeman (miglior attore non protagonista); doppio premio anche per il cast di American Horror Story: Coven (terza stagione della serie antologica di successo, anch’essa creata da Ryan Murphy), con i premi Oscar Jessica Lange e Kathy Bates che si aggiudicano, rispettivamente, i premi come miglior attrice e miglior attrice non protagonista.
